A place where I get to rant, rave and point out the seemingly obvious, but which I'm constantly amazed to find is not as crystal clear to others. Guess the old saying about there being no single objective reality is true after all!

Stupidity - and other crimes against humanity

Having a day of it, so my first actual post is a rant - who would have thought?

We prosecute and punish those who cause "problems" for the rest of us by committing crimes as a result of some sort of, shall we say, congenital maladjustment. The kleptomaniac shoplifter, for example.

So why then do we not prosecute people for their inherent stupidity when it causes distress or difficulties to others? Outlaw stupidity, and come down hard, I say. The teller at the bank who has been too stupid to give you all the information you need on a third-party transaction, thus forcing you to go back to the third party to complete the extra form she forgot to give you in the first place, thereby delaying a deal and costing you money - even incidentals like petrol. Oh and the fact that you charge for your time by the hour as a freelancer.

Wouldn't it be great to be able to go straight to the nearest police station, lay a criminal charge, and have the moron arrested?

I guess I can dream...

Ah, yes, but then surely prisons would be full of morons, including government officials (that also belong there, but for other reasons)... and Johannesburg would resemble a barren wasteland!

What I like doing when I need to deal with utter stupidity - because this lets them understand how you feel as well is to ask: "is it possible for you to call someone with a brain ?"

You could always just put a lock on the 'poskantoor' and change the sign outside to 'prison'.
I spent $15 to ensure Trixie's birthday card arrived on the day..... 10 days later my dad gets the notification and spends an hour in the post office trying to explain why his ID book says 'Phillips' but the card was addressed to 'Trixie c/o dad'. Having successfully explained the meaning of 'care-of' he was accused of being a liar again since the sender could not be his daughter! It was signed by Trish Dennis - our kind and efficient receptionist - not 'Phillips'! Sometimes I wonder why I ever left.... But not for long!
